Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has finally addressed rumours suggesting that he and Urmila Matondkar weren’t just creative collaborators. In a recent interview with Zoom, Ram Gopal Varma had referred to Urmila Matondkar as ‘the most versatile actress’ and addressed speculation about them being in a romantic relationship.
RGV and Urmila had collaborated on several projects including Rangeela, Daud, Satya, and Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya. During the recent chat, Varma said, “I think she is the most versatile actress, that is why I have worked with her in so many movies. I have worked with Amitabh Bachchan more, but nobody talks about it.”
While sharing his views on their linkup rumours, RGV called the gossip as a mere creation of industry dynamics. He asked the viewers to focus more on Urmila Matondkar’s work rather than paying attention to reports on their personal lives.
When Varma and Matondkar were busy shooting films together, several reports focused on their alleged closeness. Many also suggested that the speculation had affected Varma’s relationship with his then-wife, Ratna Varma. In his book Guns & Thighs: The Story of My Life, Varma had a full chapter focusing on Matondkar under ‘Women in My Life’. Here he showed no qualms in admitting to the fact that he was smitten by her, which was also the reason why he featured Matondkar in Rangeela.
