EXCLUSIVE: Divyendu Sharma Reveals Going Above And Beyond To Avoid Making Saali Mohabbat’s Ratan A Caricature

Actor Divyendu Sharma – who impressed us with performances in films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Mirzapur, The Railway Men, Madgaon Express, Agni, and more, is all set to wow the audience once again in ZEE5’s upcoming thriller Saali Mohabbat. During an exclusive interaction ahead of the film’s release on December 12, the actor opened up about his character Ratan Pandit, what went through his mind playing the grey character and what he did to make sure it didn’t became a caricature. Read on to know all he shared.

Divyendu Sharma On Getting Into The Skin Of Saali Mohabbat’s Ratan Pandit

When asked what he did in order to bring to life Saali Mohabbat’s Ratan Pandit, Divyendu Sharma shared, “The biggest challenge was not making him look grey, because from Ratan’s perspective, he believes he’s doing the right thing. He wants to crack the case, he’s involved with the girl, and even though he has a hidden agenda, he still sees himself as justified. Balancing all these layers while creating a character who is likable, honest, yet slightly ‘off’ was tough. I didn’t want him to become a caricature. I wanted him to feel real — someone the audience can see, understand, and even touch metaphorically. He’s juggling too many things, both personally and professionally, so making his approach look seamless was the challenge.”

He continued, “I focused a lot on his eyes — I wanted them to be reassuring, reflecting someone who knows what he wants. I also kept his exterior very likable and culturally rooted. That’s why I came up with the idea of him wearing a Pukhraj ring. I researched his sign and the gemstone he would wear because he’s someone who would try every possible route to achieve his goals. Small details like that kept his appearance neat and classy. He’s someone who would take time to shop for clothes and stay aware of his looks. Those little things mattered.”
