We are delighted to announce the winners of the 2024 Journal of Zoology ‘Paper of the Year’ award as Saima Shikesho, Jeremy Midgley, Eugene Marais and Steve Johnson, with their paper entitled
Our editors have introduced this award to acknowledge one paper each year that exemplifies excellence in zoological research, and here is how they commented on this particular article:
“I thought the study was well designed with experimental tests and produced a thought-provoking discussion. I had not considered that carnivores could be significant seed dispersers before.”
“I feel that seed dispersal by carnivores is a highly understudied topic and in addition the authors have studied it in a very challenging environment. Thus I want to give credit for this paper.”
Here is a fascinating video taken by the authors in the field, showing this frugivorous behaviour:
We congratulate the authors and wish them success with their future research!
