They love nothing more than to hang out in the water column, the careful fluttering and pulsing of their bell all but powerless in the face of a mild current. But what if a jellyfish doesn’t want to do that? What if they find a nice plot of ocean, verdant with plant life, the water a particularly delightful shade of blue, and they just want to settle down for a while? One tiny Hydrozoan has the answer. The weather pattern seems to have changed to a hotter, wetter July. At least for now the almost 3″ of rain has spelled recovery for most of our gardens. About the only plant that did not suffer was the native prickly pear cactus. It produced a hundred or so bright glossy yellow flowers, a good candidate for the Friday Fabulous flower, although today is the 4th of July, a Tuesday. There are some sand prairies over by the Rivers, and this cactus can be quite abundant in many of those. [Disclaimer: The content in this RSS feed is automatically fetched…

The sponges are structurally primitive animals, very ancient as a group and only distantly related to the animals of other groups. They are multicellular but have attained relatively little histological differentiation either as regards cell types or their integration in layer and organs. Organs cen hardly be said to exist, and whole tissues characteristic of higher animals are lacking, such as nervous and muscular tissues. Specialized gland cells also are few or lacking. Indeed the body consists of a rather loose mesenohyme, which produces the skeletal elements, covered by external and internal layers of cells so loosely organized as to…
This interview conducted by Varsha Panth from newsgram was via zoom, but my internet connectivity was bad. AI put it into writing. So it is quite long and in very colloquial language. You can scroll and see which Question interests you. Here is the interview, originally published on newsgram: Maria Wirth is a writer and author originally from Germany. She studied psychology at Hamburg University and worked with Lufthansa in her early years, which allowed her to travel across many countries, from Chile to Indonesia. In 1980, Maria came to India for what was meant to be a short stopover…
Connecting Goals, Feedback, And Learning Most companies run learning, performance, and feedback as separate systems. Goals sit inside a performance tool; feedback lives in manager notes or quarterly reviews; training sits in a learning platform where employees complete courses that may or may not connect to the work they are actually doing. An employee sets goals at the start of the quarter. Weeks pass, and priorities shift. Managers give feedback when something goes wrong or when a review cycle approaches. Training happens after a gap becomes visible, often too late to affect the outcome that mattered. The problem is not…
Six very short stories about trees. 1. ‘So the tree rustles in the evening, when we stand uneasy before our own childish thoughts: Trees have long thoughts, long-breathing and restful, just as they have longer lives than ours. They are wiser than we are, as long as we do not listen to them. But when we have learned how to listen to trees, then the brevity and the quickness and the childlike hastiness of our thoughts achieve an incomparable joy. Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing…
I was thinking about the Conundrum topic. This is one of the problems people have forming relationships. The media suggests you can have it all; you can also be it all. Maxing this or that. You believe it. This your hope and also your expectation, of yourself and others. So you meet someone and initially, they’re perfect. You have very little information and human nature will tend to fill in the blanks, favorably or unfavorably, depending on the individual’s nature. For this purpose, let’s assume the person is positive. The new potential partner has A, B, F and S qualities,…
How do you feel about rice noodles? I love them drenched in a creamy peanut sauce in the autumn, or slurped from a steamy broth in winter, but I might love rice noodles most in summer when looking for a way to make a light, refreshing meal more satisfying. So my feelings about rice noodles are seasonal. Opposite of a fair-weather friend, it’s an affection that weathers the seasons by adapting. I think any food that versatile deserves our appreciation. In fact, I am gathering research to write a piece in defense of rice, because it is so undervalued as…
The electronegativity also influences the character of these molecular orbitals. Imagine it this way – oxygen is ravenously drawing all nearby electrons closer. Carbon, as passive as it is, is alright with being dragged along with its electrons. In this situation, which atom influences the shape of the molecular orbitals the most? And in what ways?Well, since molecular orbitals are composed of both bonding and antibonding orbitals, we can say that oxygen influences the bonding aspect the most since its electronegativity is a constructive force for bonding. Further, if oxygen’s atomic orbitals are influencing the bonding molecular orbitals, then carbon’s…
If, like me, you live in the UK then you will have seen this spider. I am pretty confident that these guys are probably one the most frequently encountered spiders out there, yep that’s right I am talking about the cellar spider (Pholcus phalangioides). If you don’t believe me then go and open your airing cupboard, garage, or garden shed and I guarantee you’ll find one of these spindly spiders. However, being incredibly common, does not make them boring, in fact they display several behaviours that make them particularly interesting. So, I thought I would write a little post about…
In the 34th part of the Mahābhārata series, the comet whose fragments hit the Earth and the Moon is identified. According to recent research on Comet C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS), which disintegrated into pieces 91 million miles away from the Sun, it was found to have originated from a parent comet that broke into two approximately 5000 years ago while turning around the Sun. One of these pieces returned in 1844, and the other in 2019, disintegrating at the Sun’s aphelion—an event deemed impossible in nature. Scientists analysing this phenomenon discovered that the parent comet, visible from regions like India, broke…

It is a rare but special day when we can add a new plant to the relatively small list of carnivorous plants. It is even more exciting when that plant has been “hiding” in plain sight all this time. Meet the western false asphodel (Triantha occidentalis), a lovely monocot native to nutrient-poor wetlands in western North America. Triantha occidentalis may seem like an odd carnivorous plant. At first glance, it doesn’t have much in the way of carnivorous adaptations; there are not pitfall traps, no sticky leaves, no snap traps, and no bladders anywhere on the plant. However, if you…

After years of seeing thousands of clients, I’ve noticed the same skincare mistakes over and over again. Most of them are very simple — and very easy to fix once you understand your skin type.❌ Mistake 1: Using All Three Layers Every Day (Even When the Skin Doesn’t Need It) Many people believe the “more steps = better skin” myth. But Ayurveda reminds us that skin likes simplicity. On humid or hot days, layering serum + oil + cream can easily clog pores or cause irritation.Better: Let the season and your skin feeling guide the number of steps.❌ Mistake 2:…
Please follow and like us:Richard Feynman the father of Quantum Electrodynamics or “OED” realized the significance of Thompson’s double slit experiment because he felt carefully thinking through its implications would allow one to get complete understanding of the wave particle duality of existence predicted by Quantum Mechanics. However, one can understand it in terms of the classical properties of wave mechanics and the space-time universe defined by Einstein. The double slit experiment is made up of a coherent source of photons illuminating a screen after passing through a thin plate with two parallel slits cut in it. Their wave properties cause them…

From Cause to Cure: Relevance of Ayurveda’s Ancient Framework of Health and Healing Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life and health, is not merely a system of herbal remedies. It is a complete framework for understanding the nature of health, the origins of disease, and the pathways to recovery. While modern medicine often begins with symptoms and works backwards, Ayurveda begins with causality—asking why imbalance arose—and then traces it forward through stages of development, targets of intervention, and finally, therapeutic classes of treatment. This integrated model can be understood through five linked concepts: Kārya–Kāraṇa Siddhānta (Cause & Effect) Tāpatraya…

True Blue Flowers at the allotment /part 2I’ve complained over and over about how I missed having the time to write and share plant stuff, but it feels so odd I’m now back at it only because we’re on quarantine, and suddenly have ALL the time I could possibly need. This said, I thought I’d go on with the true blue flowers series I started many moons ago, so here you have two plants I bought last summer in the garden centre where I work. They are unrelated, but the colour of their flowers matched in a lovely way. The first is…
Rang Panchami is a lesser-known yet deeply significant festival that follows the grand celebrations of Holi. Marking the fifth day after Holika Dahan, it carries forward the spirit of colours and festivity but with a deeper spiritual meaning. The festival is observed with enthusiasm in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and several northern states of India. In 2026, Rang Panchami falls on Sunday, March 8, bringing a wave of joy, devotion, and vibrant hues. The Significance of Rang Panchami Rang Panchami is rooted in Hindu traditions and the philosophy of cleansing negative energies. Holika Dahan, which precedes Holi, symbolises the destruction of…
Living with diabetes is not merely about managing blood sugar numbers; it is about sustaining balance in the body, mind, and daily habits over the long term. While conventional medicine focuses primarily on glycemic control, many individuals are now exploring integrative approaches that address the root causes of metabolic imbalance. Among these, ayurvedic treatment for diabetes ffered through structured retreat programs has emerged as a comprehensive and sustainable option. This article explores how Ayurvedic retreat programs support long-term diabetes care, why they go beyond symptom management, and how they help individuals reclaim control over their health. Understanding Diabetes Through the…
By Jonathan Latham, PhD. It is a remarkable fact that, despite its purported emphasis on science, no one who led the US pandemic response in its first year, not Robert Redfield, not his colleague Deborah Birx, nor his nemeses Tony Fauci, Alex Azar, and Scott Atlas, had the standard qualification expected of a scientist, a PhD. Nor did any of them have a particularly exceptional research career. So what qualities caused them to rise to the top? Midway through his new book, Redfield’s Warning, Robert Redfield, who who was head of the US CDC when COVID19 first broke out, recounts…
This blog originally appeared as a guest post for The Conservation Project. Kids who care about wildlife and wild places tend to become adults who care about wildlife and wild places. Credit: U.S. Department of Agriculture (Flickr) (CC BY 2.0) On the heels of Easter Sunday, there’s another holiday to celebrate: Earth Day. Earth Day may not be as steeped in tradition as other national, international, and religious holidays, but it’s an important day for all of us who consider ourselves a part of the conservation community. While Earth Day is not as old as, say, Easter, the Earth Day Network has…
Dear Devotees, Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. We write with a heavy heart to acknowledge the departure of His Holiness Badrinarayan Swami, who left this world on 26 February 2026 in the sacred land of Sri Vrndavana Dhama. By the NA Regional Governing Body, His Holiness will be especially remembered for his long-standing service as a member of the Governing Body Commission in North America, a responsibility he carried for many decades with seriousness and resolve. He consistently demonstrated deep loyalty to Srila Prabhupada’s mission and a strong sense of responsibility for the health and…
A vast, miserable proletariat squanders its days in meaningless toil. Society is under the control of ultra-wealthy business magnates. In order to pacify the underclass, the ruling class pins its hopes on a technological solution: artificial intelligence. Welcome to the year 2026, as envisioned in Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. When the film premiered, not long after 1926 had come to an end, that date would have seemed arbitrarily futuristic. Now, of course, it’s the present, though our world may nowhere look quite as stylish as the Art Deco dystopia crafted at great expense and an unprecedented scale of production by Lang and…
Here is another introduced species that has increased rapidly in the last 20 years. It’s a creeping bramble coming from the forests and thickets in the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan. It was ‘discovered’ there by the French missionary, explorer and botanist Père Jean-Marie Delavay (1834 – 1895). He collected plants avidly, sending 200,000 herbarium specimens to the Paris Museum of Natural History. However, whilst in China he contracted bubonic plague. He struggled on, came home to recover, but went back to Yunnan despite his continuing illness and continued working for several years until he died there in 1895. The…
Four zodiac signs are attracting abundance and luck on February 28, 2026. On Saturday, Mercury conjuncts Venus in Pisces and it can be argued that these two planets cancel each other out when they are both in the sign of Pisces. Mercury is weak in Pisces, and it’s doubly weakened during retrograde. But Venus is strong, since Pisces is her exaltation sign. We have a day where communication is flawed, while love is high. The heart rules over the mind right now. The heart is where you hear messages from the universe to capture abundance opportunities. Pisces is the sign of…

But once you decide to try it, you hit a common roadblock: Should you buy the raw powder or the convenient capsules? Most men choose capsules for convenience, but they might be missing out on the real potency of the herb.In this guide, we break down the scientific and Ayurvedic differences between Safed Musli Powder and capsules. We will explore which form gives you better absorption, faster results, and more value for your money, so…
Hello all, welcome to yet another blog where I’ll be explaining rocket science and breaking the concepts into simple principles of physics. Today we shall get to know how SpaceX’s Falcon9 booster-stage lands with precision. But why only Falcon9?? I mean orbital rockets have been in existence since the 1950s’ but there had been no vertically landing rockets until 2015. It may seem surprising but the concept of vertical landings is pretty old. So, why we didn’t see any of the vertical landing rockets? Hold on, this article will solve all your doubts, so without much further ado let’s dive…

Tension prevailed in Bagalkote town after stones and footwear were allegedly hurled at a Shivaji Jayanti procession passing through the Killa Oni locality by the radical Islamic elements on the night of February 19. The procession, organized to commemorate Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was moving through the area amid celebrations when the incident occurred, triggering panic among participants and prompting immediate police intervention. Alleged gathering near Mosque raises questions According to reports, a large number of Islamist youths had gathered inside and around a nearby mosque shortly before the procession reached the area. Allegations have surfaced that hundreds of individuals assembled…

Diving into the history of plants frequently shows me crafts and professions that I knew little about and that are now largely forgotten. Some have gone from household tasks to highly industrialized and so are out of everyday sight, for example, cloth production. Others, like carriage repair, have been replaced as the technology moved on and exist only for hobbyists. early modern loom, National Wool Museum, WalesThe technology change over even my lifetime has been jaw-dropping. My grandmothers sewed clothes for their families, my mother briefly did, but now we select pre-made clothes. Only a few people sew their own clothes…
All Full Moons are opposed the Sun; that position is the whole reason the event exists, and once a year, when that Full Moon is in Leo, we have the Lunar energy blooming to fullness in direct opposition to its own ruler. It creates a kind of emotional co-dependence between our senses and feelings (the Moon) and the source of both our identity and the energy for the event itself (the Sun). That means flow between, and potential confusion as to, the origins of what we’re perceiving, and especially of what we’re feeling, and I think this interplay is drawing…
Frozen shoulder, often manifesting around age 40, may stem from a vata-kapha imbalance. Vata contributes to stiffness and pain, while excess kapha can lead to inflammation and sluggishness in the shoulder joint. Ayurvedic practices offer a holistic approach to restore balance, focusing on herbal remedies, oil massages, and targeted yoga postures. If you are seeking professional care to manage these symptoms, consulting an Ayurvedic hospital in vizag can provide a comprehensive roadmap to recovery. Good morning! Our main news today is that we are mounting a challenge of DEFRA’s regulations that relate to burning vegetation on peatland soils. However, we know that many of you are interested in our tussle with the Shooting Times over an article they published back in February so we’ll take this opportunity to tell you about that and a few other things too. But first, our challenge of the Burning Regulations… 1. Burning RegulationsBack in early June, in Wild Justice newsletter 63, we told you that we had sent a Pre-Action Protocol letter to DEFRA saying that the Burning Regulations which they had…
Samudra Manthan is a hugely popular saga in Hinduism and is a fascinating episode to learn about. This saga is also why Lord Shiva has such loyal devotees who sing mantras and visit his temples to feel spiritually closer to him. This is discussed often but little is known about the complexities and nuances of this focal part of Hinduism. So let’s delve deeper into the significance of Samudra Manthan and how it reshaped Hinduism as we know it! What Led to Samudra Manthan It all began when Lord Indra, God of thunder and rains, riding on his divine elephant…
Well. Something that should have taken just 100 days to complete has taken me over 5 years and 4 jobs. Starting on August 31st, 2020, it’s taken me 2006 days to complete the #100DaysToOffload challenge … ! Since starting the series of blog posts, much has changed. Then, we were in the middle of the first UK pandemic/lockdown. Thoughts were very much focused on the health of friends and family, and we were generally looking forward to a time when we could travel and meet the family again. COVID is, if you believe the world media, over and done (it…
It’s not often that I drive around with a car full of silverware, but that’s exactly what happened last September following a visit to a former Guest, Keen & Nettlefolds (GKN) site in Darlaston. I had been contacted by the director of a company on the site of the GKN Atlas works. He had discovered a collection of interesting photo albums, some of which showed the damage done to the site by enemy air raids in the 1940s. Once we had pored over these fascinating albums, he opened a cupboard to reveal a plethora of silver and silver-plated trophies. They…
February 20 – 8:53 AM PST (utc-7)– Saturn Conjuncts Neptune at 0° Aries Welcome to one of the most significant transits (astrological events) of our lifetime. This alignment is so rare that there is no ephemeris that goes back that far. The last time these 2 planets met at 0° Aries was about 6000 years – the time of the commencement of the agricultural era and the forming of communities. Silent Big Bang Moment We might say that this is a ‘silent big bang’ moment. We may not notice much except that we feel a bit strange and don’t know…
Emotional rhythms affect the body’s metabolic functioning through the nervous and hormonal systems, influencing the storage and release of energy. 1. Emotional holding: Unprocessed emotional tension can reflect physical holding patterns. Emotional weight can increase muscle tension, slow digestion, and weight retention. 2. Stress conditioning: Ongoing emotional stress conditions one to be in a state of conservation of bodily functions by forming a habitual self-protective mechanism. Doing so creates a metabolic predisposition to one’s weight. 3. Emotional balance: When emotional processing is balanced, nervous system stimulation decreases. This leads to more effective metabolic responsiveness without being forced, restricted, or overcorrected.…

Hiking the Bridge Trail in the Quehanna Wild AreaI shared an update just a couple of weeks ago, but it feels like it’s been far longer than that. Moving at this slower speed than I do in my everyday life and taking so much in. Being so very present from moment to moment, makes the days feel fuller, longer. Time moves differently out here. I relish it. I don’t know about you, but I frequently feel the pressure of time hurrying me along. Not out here. We and time seem to tick along at the same speed, at least when…
Abstract Oxalis corniculata Linn., a member of the family Oxalidaceae, is a medicinal creeping herb widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. It is commonly known as creeping wood sorrel, and it grows abundantly in human-inhabited areas, gardens, roadsides, and warmer parts of India, including the Himalayan region up to about 2500 m altitude. The plant has a characteristic sour taste due to the presence of organic acids such as oxalic, ascorbic, citric, tartaric acids, along with essential fatty acids, including palmitic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic, and stearic acids. Traditionally, it has been used in various systems of medicine for managing…
Freshwater estuaries are important habitats in lake ecosystems, harboring biodiversity and moving sediment between waterbodies.1 Within the Great Lakes, many of the largest estuaries have become major population centers. These are heavily urbanized with sediment buildup and dredging, limiting their natural cycles and impacts on lakes.1 However, less is known about unimpacted estuaries. Especially how flooding and sediment movement impact the estuaries, their surrounding wetlands, and the lakes they drain into. A 2025 study in the Journal of Great Lakes Research examined natural flooding and sedimentation in a Lake Superior estuary. It sought to understand how water levels affect estuarine floods and…
These dogs LOVE pulling sleds. They bark and howl with as the equipment gets set up. One morning in winter I went to say goodbye to Party before she would leave for three weeks and she was so excited, she could barely contain herself at the sight of the sled being set up. As Party and I got closer, friends suggested that I apply to adopt her. Anyone can apply to adopt one of the Denali sled dogs when they retire. Preference is given to people who have a relationship with the dog. Could I adopt her? Should I adopt…

This month’s questions include best practices for creating content/courses; RFPs/RFIs, Relevance of Learning in 2026. Q: We are new to creating courses and see the terms you use – “content creator” and what others use “authoring tools.” Is there a difference? We have a lot of videos we want to use as separate courses – or as you refer to it as content, can we do this? A: Content Creator and an Authoring Tool are one in the same. I prefer content creator, because ‘content’ is a worldwide term that folks understand these days, especially the younger generations or anyone…

By this time 26 years ago, the “Dot-Com Bubble” was ready to burst. People who wanted to raise investor money claimed that they could sell anything affordably on a website; three companies were devoted just to pet food and buying ad space on broadcast television.So-called AI is enjoying a similar frenzy. Though they are still just Large Language Models (LLMs), and the best analogy for that is a fancy autocomplete, they are attracting huge levels of financial investment partly because of the potential and then primarily because people want to make money on stocks, not companies. The Dot-Com Bubble did collapse but…
A data scientist thinks he’s solved the mystery of Bigfoot ― not by searching for the creature out in the wilds, but by examining the math instead. Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain In a new preprint study published online in bioRxiv, data analyst Floe Foxon says many sightings could actually be black bears, which can be roughly the size and shape of a Sasquatch when walking on their hind legs. Study abstract: It has been suggested that the American black bear (Ursus americanus) may be responsible for a significant number of purported sightings of an alleged unknown species of hominid in…

EDITOR’S NOTE: Because extended enterprise learning involves multiple disciplines and perspectives, we regularly invite experts from other organizations to share their insights. Today, Nick Eriksen of Eurekos shares advice on how to manage training as a profit center. For decades, corporate training budgets have lived under a “cost center” label. Learning leaders know training is necessary but defending it to executives can be hard. This is why a broader agenda matters. When you extend training beyond employees, the picture changes dramatically. With customer, partner, and member education, the focus shifts to revenue, profit, and growth. Often, I’ve seen these external learning programs…

Social history versus art might well be the title of Tate Modern’s Tracy Emin A Second Life retrospective. 30 years ago her installation “My Bed” shot her to a tabloid fame and then gradually to national treasure though retaining her reputation as a “swearing, sexually aggressive provocateur.” Her initial foray into conceptual art was taken initially as promiscuous boasting but was ultimately seen as a self-portrait of depression, following childhood neglect, abuse, rape at 13, and suicidal thoughts after a recent break-up. Her oeuvre has been connected to women’s homespun, storytelling traditions from mining her abortion to other…

Every minute, countless muons rain down from space, passing through everything—including us—before penetrating deep below the Earth’s surface. The discovery of these particles, created when cosmic rays hit our planet’s atmosphere, was one of the biggest surprises in the history of particle physics. In the mid-1930s, two sets of physicists independently found evidence of muons in tracks left behind by cosmic rays. At the time, only a handful of particles—such as electrons, protons and photons—were known. The muon, a heavier and shorter-lived cousin of the electron, was an unexpected new member of the subatomic family. Upon first hearing evidence that muons…
There is something genuinely strange about the way bonobos use sex. Not strange in the tabloid sense, though that framing has followed these apes around since they were popularized in the 1990s. Strange in the evolutionary sense: Pan paniscus deploys sexual behavior as a kind of social Swiss Army knife, using it to resolve conflict, build alliances, and manage the complex politics of a matriarchal society. Sex is not just reproduction for bonobos. It’s communication.Which raises a question that a team of researchers from Italy, Belgium, and beyond decided to take seriously: if sex is communicative, what exactly is being…

CookBSBI’s Strategy 2024-27 includes the goal of inspiring, building and supporting a diverse community of botanists to sustain and develop the skill base. To reach that goal, we knew that we had to find even more ways of engaging a broader community by identifying – and then working to reduce – any barriers to participation. This is why BSBI set up an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Working Group in 2024 to brainstorm ideas that would help us make botany more accessible for everyone, and then come up with a statement and an…

Intimacy can feel different at different stages of life. Sometimes it feels easy and natural. Other times it feels uncomfortable, rushed or simply harder to access than it used to be. Dryness, sensitivity or a lack of ease are more common than people realize, especially during periods of stress, hormonal change or nervous system overload. When the body doesn’t feel supported, intimacy can start to feel like effort rather than connection. In Ayurveda, intimacy is understood as an extension of overall nourishment. When the body feels dry, tense or depleted, connection often feels harder to access. When the body feels…
Scientists use insect larvae to make a healthy, sustainable milk alternative and a useful material. Introduction Many people meet their protein needs by eating meat. Raising livestock for food requires land, water, and energy. Current practices cause about 15 percent of the human-made greenhouse gases. They use about 70 percent of global freshwater resources. Raising livestock also leads to soil erosion, water pollution, and deforestation. As the world population grows, these negative impacts will increase. Scientists want to find food options that are healthy and sustainable. That means the food source meets current needs without damaging the environment. One…

On the other hand, the mind keeps on retrieving this information stored in the soul as per the requirement to make any critical decisions matching with situations. Based on mind, take an emotional or logical decision, which hardly goes wrong. After that, on the basis of its decision, the mind either works itself or gets tasks done by respective body parts.Purity: it means to have purity of mind. Despite being attributes of a soul, purity is connected with the mind. Because the mind is the birthplace of all kinds of thoughts, emotions and logic. Therefore, if the birthplace is pure,…

Thirupalkadal Sreekrishna Temple, also known as Thiruparkadal Sreekrishnaswamy Temple, is one of the oldest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu (worshipped as Krishna) in Keezhperoor, Chirayinkeezhu Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The central icon of the temple is a four-armed standing Vishnu holding the conch Panchajanya, the discus Sudarshana Chakra, the mace Kaumodaki, and a lotus with a holy basil garland. Krishna, the principal deity (Thirupalkadal Bhattarakar), was the family deity of the Ay dynasty. The temple is believed to have been renovated by Kulashekhara Alvar, the seventh in the line of the twelve Alvars. While not listed among the 108 Divya…
Last year, some hefty fines were issued, often to repeat offenders. We review the largest penalties dished out in 2026 so far and the breaches behind them.
When garden plants go weedy, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve escaped the boundaries of our yards and invaded nearby natural areas or uncultivated spaces. While this is a concern for a significant number of ornamental plants, sometimes the weediness of a garden plant is experienced within the very yard or garden it was planted in. For some of us, such a plant’s weediness can turn us off from growing it at all. We opt to weed out the overzealous plants and replace them with something tamer. Others may decide to just put up with this behavior. Perhaps we like the…
Amidst the current global turmoil, my mind keeps coming back to international organizations like the United Nations. I then stumbled across this BBC article, where the UN Chief warns the organization is at risk of imminent financial collapse. And once I found the birth chart for the UN via astro.com I realized I could dive into some of the astrology behind the UN and its current situation. Neptune in Libra Part of my initial curiosity about the UN was that I had a vague memory that it was created in the aftermath of WW2. Why does an astrologer keep that…

With thousands of papers and studies being published daily, how do you know whether your research has made any waves in the field? How is actual “impact” or “influence” measured, and what metrics matter? By number of citations or Altmetric score? Virality on social media? Longest title of 2025? And finally, are these measurements good, bad or simply delightful? All of these questions (and more) are ones that data and research experts, Mike Taylor (Head of Data Insights, Digital Science), Carrie Brubaker (Medical Affairs Consultant), and Carlos Areia (Senior Data Scientist, Altmetric, part of Digital Science) began to explore as…

For decades, scientists have wrestled with a simple but profound puzzle: how did life’s genetic code first connect with proteins? Today, all living cells rely on enzymes to attach amino acids to RNA in a process called aminoacylation. But those very enzymes are themselves built by ribosomes, which in turn need aminoacylated RNA to function. It’s a classic chicken-or-egg paradox at the heart of biology: which came first, the protein machines or the code that makes them? A new study has now revealed a way out of this puzzle. Aminoacylation: The first step toward proteins In simple terms, aminoacylation means…
According to Vedic cosmology, 108 is the basis of creation, representing the universe and all our existence. As the soul is encased in two types of bodies: the physical body (made of earth, water, fire, air, and ether) and the subtle body (composed of intelligence, mind and ego), 108 plays a significant role in keeping these two bodies healthily connected. Hindus believe the body holds seven chakras, or pools of energy, which begin at the bottom of the spine and go all the way down to the top of the head and it is believed there are 108 energy lines…
