Singh, A. et al After a landmark investigation into their funding sources, MoTech Labs Ltd has been accused of cashing in on life insurance policies purchased on their lab rats in order to afford equipment and executive bonuses. “Suspicion was raised after the organization had enough PPE and beakers to run like a normal, functioning lab,” said lead detective Arnold Harrison. “Also, they replaced all their lab coats with fur coats. That was a pretty big red flag.” But what really broke the case? Investigating the insurance policies themselves. “All the paperwork was all filed under names such as ‘Charles…

From time to time, a seedling will do a little fake-out, making me think that I’m getting one kind of bloom and then actually delivering another. 0330 Faye Quinette was one of the first of these, producing a brown bud that became an orange spathe, and 1731 Robyn Millyonz was another (green bud became a beigey spathe), and now we have Ramona. This was the bud: And here’s what I got: (And just to be clear that the sides really were different, here’s a shot as the bud was opening that shows both at once:) I’m not sure whether this…

In the 31st part of the Mahabharata series, Nilesh Oak’s version that Arundhatī preceded Vasishtha (star) for 6000 years is analysed. After explaining Arundhati’s significance as an icon of Pativratātva in Vedic society, I provide a word-by-word meaning of the verse, highlighting an inherent contradiction. This is resolved using the Mīmāṃsā axiom on Guna and Pradhāna statements, establishing that Arundhatī momentarily appearing ahead of her husband was a temporary phenomenon, a nimitta as stated by Vyasa. This appearance is attributed to a comet impact which is explained with a diagram. The astronomical explanation for calculating a star’s location is given, demonstrating…

Hummingbirds are the high-performance athletes of the avian world. With heart rates topping 1,200 beats per minute, they are biological machines that require constant fueling. But according to a new study, that fuel comes with a surprising kick. As it turns out, these tiny birds (along with bees and other pollinators) are essentially drinking alcohol every day. Researchers have discovered that low-level ethanol is widespread in the nectar of a vast array of flowering plants. Yet despite the constant intake, these pollinators don’t seem to be flying under the influence. A Daily Buzz We used to think of floral nectar…
Bentham and Hooker classification George Bentham and Joseph Dalton Hooker – Two English taxonomists who were closely associated with the Royal Botanical Garden at Kew, England have given a detailed classification of plant kingdom, particularly the angiosperms. They gave an outstanding system of classification of phanerogams in their Genera Plantarum which was published in three volumes between the years 1862 to 1883. It is a natural system of classification. However, it does not show the evolutionary relationship between different groups of plants, in the strict sense. Nevertheless, it is the most popular system of classification particularly for angiosperms. The popularity…
Insects make up the vast majority of animal species on Earth, but their populations are declining rapidly. The ability to measure their numbers is crucial to understand the efficacy of methods to reverse the trend, but, until now, tracking insect decline at a global scale has been challenging. New technologies could change this. A new study, published in the journal Conservation Letters, co-authored by Professor Lynn Dicks and Dr Joe Millard, of our Agroecology Group, recommends the United Nations establishes a dedicated working group to develop insect-focused measurements, and outlines practical tools that could create a worldwide picture of…
Ojas, the mind, the feet How to navigate these times? Talking with Kate O’Donnell on her podcast this week – it airs next Wednesday – I bravely spoke about protecting one’s mind stream, a k a consciousness. Yesterday I imagined calling this post Resting in Fresh Mind Stream, kind mind stream. By today my mind did not hold the sparkle or confidence to fly that high. This week my mind stream has been all over the place. Grounding in the present moment is the best I can offer today. There are hazards and blessings in having access to so much world news…
Last evening, the Friends of HUA Bay Area hosted a wonderful gathering at the Veda Temple in Milpitas, California, where I had the opportunity to speak on the topic “Ayurveda – The Wisdom of Wellbeing.” It was part of a free speaker series organized to introduce the community to the timeless insights from the Hindu University of America and their relevance in modern life. The event brought together a curious and engaged audience, and what followed was a lively and interactive discussion about one simple but profound question: How do we know if we are truly healthy? Rethinking the Meaning…
Recruitment has a habit of signalling who it wants, long before a CV is ever read. You can see it in the language of the job description: “fast-paced environment”, “high energy”, or “work hard, play hard”. On the surface, it’s reasonably harmless and may actually reflect the nature of the work and culture within. It could also be standard wording that’s been pasted from the last advert and copied from another, so they’re seen as more dynamic or an ‘active’ business. But it does something very deliberate, even if unintentionally. It tells a certain group of people: this isn’t for…
Feeling like you had “a good night’s sleep” depends on more than just how long you slept. It also reflects how deeply and continuously you believe you slept. Scientists still do not fully understand what happens in the brain to create this sense of deep, refreshing rest. A new study from researchers at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, published in PLOS Biology, points to an unexpected factor. Dreams, especially those that are vivid and immersive, may actually make sleep feel deeper and more restorative rather than interrupting it. Rethinking Deep Sleep and Brain Activity For decades, deep sleep…

By Steve Young With a title like this is was anybody’s guess what this book was about. Michael Largo, author of “The Big Bad Book of Beasts” and other books (mostly about strange people), has compiled information about a wide variety of interesting plants from around the world “The World’s Most Fascinating Flora.” Each species or taxonomic group (birches, bamboos, blue algae) has two or three pages devoted to information about its taxonomy, naming history, natural history, range, uses, and other odd aspects that the author hopes you have never heard about before. A lot of information is well known…

By Chaitanya Charan das Question: Is the Ramayana, comprising as it does stories from ancient times, practically relevant today? Answer: Yes, it is relevant because the stories, though from an ancient setting, embody timeless values. From “me” to “we” One of the primary values that it conveys – selfless sacrifice – is especially relevant in our present times that are characterized by obsessive selfishness. Contemporary culture largely glamorizes the “me” paradigm, which impels people to seek their personal gratification without caring about its cost for others. When the same inconsiderate individualism causes us to neglect or manipulate the people around…
Last holiday I started a new blog. Which was unexpected (even for myself) because not so long ago I almost gave up on blogging. Now I’m juggling two. But there is a method to the madness. When I hark back to an earlier post of mine, Why I blog, I recognise my founding principle holds true: I blog primarily for myself. I use writing as a vehicle for my thinking. By presenting my thoughts to the world, I need to understand them, and articulate them effectively for others to understand. And if other people learn something from my insights and…
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel and offers a sustainable and potentially carbon-neutral alternative to petroleum products. Yet production costs remain a hurdle to its widespread use. Now, researchers have developed an inexpensive way to make biodiesel from materials found along the banks of their Louisiana bayou: algae and oyster shells. The researchers will present their results at the spring meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS Spring 2026), held in Atlanta from March 22 to 26. Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly… But not until Christmas Eve, otherwise you’ll have bad luck! Once your holly (Ilex aquifolium) and other festive evergreens are in place, it is also unlucky to either remove them before, or leave them up after, Twelfth Night. When you do take down your decorations it’s very important to be as careful as possible, lest you be infested not with cheery little Christmas elves, but terrifying goblins. The number that you see is determined by how many leaves you allow to fall to the ground. Robert Herrick (of “gather ye rosebuds while ye…
Sometimes birds turn up in unusual places. Birders in Hong Kong were out in force in February–not to some remote parts of the New Territories but to a landscaped building in the heart of Kowloon. There, in the patches of garden around Kowloon Bat Sports Centre, was a crake, a Slaty-legged Crake (Rallina eurizonoides) to be precise, going about the business of searching for food, moving around a bit and having a nap.In recent years these crakes which are summer visitors to shrubland in the New Territories and passage migrants have been seen occasionally in Hong Kong’s parks behaving rather…
I went to the Natural Products Expo yesterday and was so full of glee — walking around tasting everything. And I noticed there are SO many drinks now. Cans everywhere. Almost all of them fall into one of two categories: they either mellow you out… or they jack you up. I’m guilty, I like them too. But at some point I had this thought: are we reaching for these things because we don’t actually know how to work with our own energy anymore? Why don’t we know how to do this ourselves? Why do we have to buy it? It…
From the sunset‑lit Gothic towers of Oxford University to the bustling amphitheatres of Dubai and the temple courtyards of Sydney, Navratri and Durga Puja have rapidly evolved into truly global festivals between 2021 and 2026, with at least 14 major celebrations mapped across four continents in this period. These events, powered by a vibrant Bharatiya diaspora and joined by local communities, have turned what was once a largely South Asian observance into a powerful symbol of multiculturalism, soft power and shared civic identity. Oxford’s viral Chaitra Navratri greeting On 19 March 2026, Oxford University in the United Kingdom marked Chaitra…
Leadership development is always (at least to me) in the top three reasons folks use a learning system. Number one is developing skills – current or future (albeit that is a bit misleading) – this part of the skills angle is taught through assigned learning. Number two is content tied to your job role, and of late, “career management” is another wonderful, ambiguous term focused on white-collar professionals – whether on-site or remote. I wish it weren’t true, but way too many C-level folks see it this way, and too many L&D folks as well – even if they have…
If you had told me while I was doing my undergrad degree that a key skill in research was poster making, I would have assumed you were making a rather strange arts and crafts-related joke. If you had told me while I was doing my PhD that I would continue to need this poster skill well into my later career, I would have assumed you were a tiredness-induced hallucination (happens a lot during PhD). But here we are, double-digit years later, and I find myself, this morning, opening a file on my computer called “poster_first_draft“. I have now lost count…
East Lambrook Manor’s famous ditch with banks of Snowdrops, Galanthus sp. © Karen Andrews After the flurry of December’s Advent Botany posts, my blog was unfortunately silent in January. Editing the SRPG’s 25th anniversary newsletter kept me occupied. However, with the Snowdrop Festival season now upon us, I could not resist a long-awaited visit to East Lambrook’s famous Snowdrop ditch. I checked the weather forecast and set off for the Somerset village of East Lambrook near South Petherton. Although the sky was overcast, it did not feel chill and the rain was holding off. The temperature has to be 7ºC…
Might the mulilo – if it exists – look something like this? (created by Dr Karl Shuker using Dream Lab) In more than 40 years of cryptozoological researches and writings, I have been proud and privileged to introduce to the cryptozoological community and beyond a considerable number and notable diversity of cryptids whose details had been hitherto consigned to obscure, overlooked periodicals, books, and other passed-over publications. One such mystery beast is the mulilo, whose details I uncovered in a long-since-forgotten Empire Review article, but which I duly documented and discussed in one of my own books, From Flying Toads…
July 12, 2022 Do you know your Ayurvedic dosha and why this matters for a healthy sex life? Here is the truth- Fulfilling sexual expressions are REALLY important, which is why Kama, or sensual intimacy, is one of the pillars of the Vedic culture and human happiness. Also fact- many of you have been conditioned to feel ashamed about your sexual desires, and have stuffed, repressed, or downright not even known what you like and what brings you pleasure. I’m talking about the way your Ayurvedic constitution shows you how to have fulfulling sensual experiences that rejuvenate you…
Overview Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival celebrated in honour of God Surya. It is observed on the 14th day of the month of January and marks the transition of the sun from the Dhanu Raashi (Sagittarius) to Makar Raashi (Capricorn). One of the traditional customs associated with Makar Sankranti is the donation, consumption, and use of til (sesame seeds). Special significance of Sesame Sankranti and til (sesame) are synonymous to each other and this seamless co-relation is scientific and mythological too. Sesame holds special significance during Makar Sankranti. It is revered as the grain par excellence and is eaten…
EPISODE 109: Growing a Training Business in Regulated Industries Andrew Tyndall, CEO, Responsible Training Over the years, I’ve interviewed countless training company owners. Although their business concepts vary widely, I see a common thread running through every story. They all seem grounded in a commitment to evolution. This week’s podcast guest is a perfect example. Andrew Tyndall is CEO and Owner of Responsible Training, a food safety training business that leverages learning technology to drive ongoing growth. The company’s 20-year path has not been straight, but it has been rewarding. How so? Find out from Andrew as he joins us…
Scientists have finally captured something long rumored but never proven: sperm whales headbutting each other. Using drone footage from the Azores and Balearic Islands, researchers observed younger, sub-adult whales deliberately ramming one another—challenging the long-held belief that such behavior was limited to massive adult males. Credit: Shutterstock Sperm whales caught on camera headbutting each other—turns out the legends might have been true after all. Researchers from the University of St Andrews have documented sperm whales headbutting each other, capturing the behavior on video and describing it scientifically for the first time. The finding supports long-standing reports from 19th-century sailors who…

Dagher, J. and Greiner, E. (2024). Variation in white-tailed and mule deer dental metrics is associated with precipitation gradients in the Americas. Journal of Zoology, vol. 324, pp. 325-338. https://doi.org/10.1111/jzo.13220 The relationship between the physical environment and adaptation is crucial in understanding the selective pressures driving evolution. Furthermore, evidence from the fossil record is necessary for reconstructing past environments. But how can we use fossils to comprehend past environments? One way of answering this question is by thoroughly investigating how tooth morphology and wear appear in the modern analogs and then applying this knowledge to the fossil record. For example, herbivorous…
“Sleep is the single most effective thing we can do to reset our brain and body health each day-Mother Nature’s best effort yet at contra death”–Mathew Walker Sleep along with hunger are the 02 basic functions essential to all the living beings on this Earth. Hunger results in consumption of nutrients to the living beings and this is extensively studied and practiced. On the other hand, science is still in the process of determining the how, why, what of sleep patterns of various living beings. The basic stimulus is the occurrence of day and night in the Nature. The living…

Editors’ Highlights are summaries of recent papers by AGU’s journal editors. Source: AGU Advances One of the striking phenomena that can be observed during long lasting droughts is that trees start to lose their leaves either by leaf browning or leaf shedding. Using a computer model of optimal tree growth, Quetin et al. [2026] show that it is beneficial for trees to shed their leaves during droughts for two reasons. First, because the leaf area that can lose water to the atmosphere is reduced, further water stress is avoided. Second, because it is advantageous from a biomass and energy perspective…
The moment a dispute arises (e.g., a “ghosted” job offer), 🇮🇳 INDIA Legal Framework WhatsApp messages are considered electronic records under Indian law. Their admissibility is governed mainly by the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023, which replaced the earlier Indian Evidence Act, 1872. These laws allow electronic records such as emails, digital files, and WhatsApp chats to be presented as evidence in court if they meet the required legal conditions. (Barristery) The Critical Requirement: Section 63 Certificate (formerly Section 65B) Under the present law, electronic records must ordinarily be accompanied by a proper certificate under Section 63 of the Bharatiya…
I August I returned from a trip around European botanic gardens. Starting in the Netherlands I visited gardens in Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. Part of my PhD research the idea was to survey the glasshouses across as many countries as I could manage to add an international element to my thesis. Across 500 quadrats and seven botanic gardens in recorded a total of 199 taxa. Oxalis corniculata and its allies were the most frequent species recorded and one of the key focuses of my research. I had a very useful meeting with Quentin Groom at Meise Botanic…

Ayurveda for insomnia, which is defined as the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep. According to Ayurveda, Anidra is caused by an imbalance in the body’s doshas or energy forces. Insomnia can be caused by an increase in the Vata dosha, which controls movement and can cause restlessness, or by an increase in the Pitta dosha, which controls metabolism and can cause an overactive mind. Ayurveda recommends several natural remedies to help promote better sleep: Establish a regular sleep routine: Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day to establish a normal sleep…
Lord Krishna delivered divine teachings to Arjuna through Bhagavad Gita on the battlefield of Mahabharata war. Lord Krishna motivated His friend Arjuna to do his duty and also told him about deep relevance of devotional bhakti. Lord Krishna told Arjuna very deep message about his devotees. As per Him in Bhagwad Gita Chapter 9 :”ananyas cintayanto mamye janah paryupasatetesham nityabhiyuktanamyoga-ksemam vahamy aham” (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine verse 22)”Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental…
This is a back-to-basics article about an undervalued and often overlooked tool: the multiple-choice question. It may not be as exciting as immersive learning or AI-generated podcasts, but it might be more important. Well-written assessment items reduce errors from poorly constructed questions. Reliable and valid test items provide more accurate data about what learners know and can do. This data helps you diagnose learning gaps, refine instruction, and improve performance. What is a reliable assessment item? Reliability refers to the degree to which measurement is consistent. A reliable test produces similar results when the same knowledge or skill is…
AGU decries the recent removal of a chapter on climate science from the 2025 4th edition of the Federal Judicial Center’s Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence, particularly at a moment when judges are likely to encounter increasingly complex and critical issues related to climate change. The Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence is one of the judiciary’s most widely used resources for understanding complex scientific and technical issues. Without the climate science chapter, courts have fewer tools to interpret the scientific principles underlying many climate-related disputes. This need is especially urgent following the 2024 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, which upended judicial precedent deferring to federal agencies’ technical expertise when interpreting ambiguous laws. This decision means that courts must…
In industrial manufacturing, particularly within the textile and garment sectors, the atmospheric environment is not merely a matter of worker comfort—it is a critical factor in both material integrity and physiological safety. Section 15 of the Factories Act provides the legal framework for Artificial Humidification, ensuring that when industries must manipulate air moisture, they do so without compromising the health of the workforce. 1. This guide provides an in-depth analysis of Section 16, its technical requirements, and its implications for modern industrial management. 1. The Legislative Intent of Section 16 The primary objective of Section 16 is to ensure that no room in a factory is so crowded as to be injurious to the health…
Section 20 of the Factories Act: Spittoons, Hygiene, and Industrial Health Management Introduction: The Philosophy of Industrial Hygiene The Factories Act stands as the bedrock of labor welfare and occupational safety in modern industrial jurisprudence. While much of the public and academic focus remains on high-stakes safety protocols—such as machine guarding (Section 21) or fire safety (Section 38)—the Act recognizes that long-term industrial productivity is inextricably linked to the biological health and dignity of the workforce. Within the “Health” chapter of the Act lies Section 20: Spittoons. To the modern observer, a dedicated legal mandate for spittoons might seem like…
The city of Rabat, capital of Morocco, is a Unesco World Heritage site, and the Jardins d’Essai Botaniques, literally meaning Gardens of Botanical Trials, was classified a national heritage site in 1992. These gardens were created between 1914 and 1919, under a joint initiative of the sultan Moulay Hafid and the French Protectorate. They were designed by one of my favorite garden architects, Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, best known for the Rose Garden and the Iris Garden of Bagatelle outside Paris, but who created gardens in Spain and Morocco in addition to his city planning work as a French public servant,…

Thus, the Srimad Bhagavata opens by proclaiming the eternal truth in its very first verse: janmady asya yatah — a declaration invoked as the auspicious Mangalacharana. It affirms that the Supreme Reality alone is the source of creation, preservation, and dissolution, sovereign (svarat), omniscient, and independent of all else. From Him arose the first being, the four‑faced Brahma, the adikavi. Yet even Brahma, destined as the architect of the cosmos, was born into darkness and bewilderment, compelled to undertake deep tapas before beholding Bhagavan and receiving true knowledge.Even Brahma, the creator, walked the path of humility. How much more must…

The world is full of charismatic predators; big cats, wolves and crocodiles, which are commonly the focus of TV shows and documentaries, but some of the most interesting and successful predators are often overlooked. As far as numbers go, the predatory beetles are the most successful terrestrial predators, but we’ll forget that for a moment as they are not the focus of this post. Instead, we will be looking at the fascinating variety and ingenuity of the hugely successful predatory Hemipteran group: Reduviidae. The bugs belonging to the Hemipteran family Reduviidae are commonly known as assassin bugs and this is…
Growing concerns about environmental pollution have brought attention to a lesser-known health risk: microplastics. These microscopic plastic particles are increasingly being detected in air, water and everyday products, raising questions about their impact on human health—particularly the respiratory system. Experts note that lung health depends on both internal lifestyle factors and external environmental conditions. As pollution and microplastic exposure rise, traditional wellness systems such as Ayurveda are being explored for preventive approaches that may help protect respiratory health. The Rising Threat of Microplastics Microplastics are tiny plastic particles measuring less than five millimetres, often even smaller than mustard seeds. Because…

In 2026, training stops being measured by completed courses and starts being measured by execution. The Real Problem L&D Faces TodayIn this new stage of L&D, the conversation no longer revolves around “what course is missing,” but around a much more relevant question for the business:

For HR to ensure legal and operational compliance, the documentation for safety and health modules must satisfy two distinct but overlapping frameworks: OSHA (regulatory/mandatory) and ISO 45001 (management systems/voluntary best practice). While OSHA focuses on proving that training happened, ISO 45001 focuses on proving that training was effective and part of a continuous improvement loop. 1. OSHA Documentation Requirements (The Mandatory Baseline) Under 29 CFR 1910, OSHA requires specific “proof of training” records. If these are missing during an inspection, it results in automatic non-compliance. It’s almost springtime, and that means … babies! As humans, we can all more or less agree on what it takes to raise a human baby. However, outside of our species, the parenting experience varies drastically. Within the animal kingdom, some parents spend literally no time with their young, others spend their whole lives in family units, and most others fall somewhere in between. Humans tend to take the job of parenting pretty seriously; here are four other species that do the same. American Alligators Don’t let their tough look fool you; alligators and crocodiles are devoted parents. Crocodilians (gators, crocs, and gharials) aren’t like most reptiles, which often lay…
4 minute readLast updated on August 21, 2024 by Dr. Subashri Thanigaivel “Uff! It’s too hot today. I can’t stand this heat. And I have susceptible skin. Such hot weather will damage my skin!” “And so… I’m not gonna go out for shopping with you today 😜” Many of you would have said this to your BFF if they had ever asked you out for shopping. Especially if you are a beauty-conscious person. But the concept here is not about hot weather damaging your skin or beauty. It is all about your body heat, and its tolerance level. If you…
Hindu prayers will open the Memphis City Council (Tennessee) meeting on December 16, containing verses from world’s oldest extant scripture. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the invocation from ancient Sanskrit scriptures before the Memphis City Council. After Sanskrit delivery, he then will read the English interpretation of the prayers. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and the root language of Indo-European languages. Zed, who is the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, will recite from Rig-Veda, the oldest scripture of the world still in common use; besides lines from Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita (Song of the Lord), both ancient Hindu scriptures. Misrepresentation in Canadian Immigration Law: Overview Among the most serious problems that may occur during a Canadian immigration application is misrepresentation. Canadian immigration controls require applicants to provide complete and accurate information upon filing forms, documents, and supporting evidence. Immigration authorities can conclude that a candidate has misrepresented themselves when they provide false information or conceal significant details. This observation may have severe implications for both current and future immigration possibilities. Understanding misrepresentation in Canadian immigration law is therefore important for anyone planning to apply for a visa, permanent residence, or other immigration benefits. Even minor errors or omissions can…
When flowering plants such as rice, wheat, olive trees, and bamboo become infected with pathogens, they are smaller and have less yield. Fortunately, plants have receptor proteins that recognize molecules from pathogens when the two fit together, triggering an immune response. Unfortunately, no immune receptor recognizes every current and future pathogens. However, recent research has shown that immune receptors specific to plants from one branch of the plant family tree, such as cabbages and broccoli, can be transferred to another lineage, like tomatoes and potatoes, giving them a defense that they don’t naturally have. The ancient immune receptor SCORE was discovered…

What your digestion may be trying to tell you The Common Misunderstanding When digestive discomfort strikes — bloating, heartburn, a burning sensation after meals — most people assume the problem is too much stomach acid. This is an understandable conclusion. The burning feeling certainly suggests excess. And for many years, this belief has been the dominant assumption in both popular health culture and conventional medicine. But for a significant number of people, the opposite is true. The discomfort they feel is not the result of too much acid. It is the result of too little. Low stomach acid — a…
The often overlooked and misunderstood form of Shakti Growing up as an Indian girl from Bihar, whose father’s job had us hopscotching across India, I often felt like a cultural sponge—soaking in accents, festivals, food, and customs from every stop. But one moment, in particular, from when I was thirteen, stands out vividly. It was Durga Puja in my hometown, Ranchi. The air pulsed with the deep, hypnotic beats of the dhak (percussion instrument similar to a dhol), women’s voices soared with ulludhwani—that high-pitched sound made by curling the tongue—and the scent of incense mingled with fried luchis (savory snack)…
Test Prep for Teachers: What actually makes the biggest difference Every year, spring testing brings the same question: What should we focus on right now? More practice tests? More review packets? More content coverage? When preparing students for state assessments, AP exams, end-of-course exams, or the SAT, it’s easy to assume that doing more is the answer. But the biggest gains in standardized test performance don’t come from volume. They come from focus. Effective spring test prep is about reinforcing the high-impact skills that standardized tests consistently measure across subjects and grade levels. This guide breaks down: What standardized tests…
In recent years, academic research has become a target of political hostility. Governments and partisan movements have delegitimized, defunded, or discredited entire scholarly fields, while those working on topics that intersect with politics, media, or technology have faced escalating scrutiny. This has been observed particularly in environments where research findings challenge powerful interests or dominant narratives. In the United States, this tension has become especially acute: disinformation and social media research now sit at the center of a broader culture war over the meaning of “free speech,” the role of universities and the boundaries of government-funded inquiry. Under the second…
Kicking the plastic habit – What about Silicone or Rubber? In my previous post, I neglected to mention two other materials that might replace some plastic use – silicone and rubber. Are they any better? The short answer is yes, but with some important qualifications. Neither is made from fossil fuels, and so that is a plus. Both are less toxic to us and our environment, and neither breaks down into fine particles like microplastics. ‘ll deal with silicone first.Silicone is a rubber-like material that is actually made from plain old silicate sand (SO2), as is glass. There are many silicone products…

A Practical Guide to Setting Intentions the Ayurvedic Way Every January, millions of people set New Year’s resolutions with enthusiasm, only to abandon them by February. The problem isn’t lack of willpower—it’s that most resolutions ignore our individual nature and natural rhythms. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of holistic health, offers a different approach: creating resolutions that align with your unique constitution (Dosha), honor natural cycles, and focus on sustainable, small changes rather than dramatic overhauls. This article will guide you through setting New Year’s resolutions from an Ayurvedic perspective—practical, personalized, and designed to last beyond the first month of…

This situation is common for many professionals in India. As businesses become more competitive, academic qualifications are increasingly important for promotions. However, leaving a job for a full-time degree is difficult for people with financial or family responsibilities. Online graduation courses solve this problem. They allow professionals to study while continuing…
On 18 February 2025, the probability that asteroid 2024 YR4 might impact Earth on 22 December 2032, as assessed by ESA’s Near-Earth Object Coordination Centre, rose to 2.8%. This means that 2024 YR4 has now surpassed the 2.7% chance of impact briefly associated with the much larger asteroid (99942) Apophis back in 2004. For asteroids larger than 30 metres in size, 2024 YR4 now holds the record for the highest impact probability reached, and the longest time spent with an impact probability greater than 1%. It is important to note that this rising impact probability is an expected result as…
