94 idols including Shri Ganesh and Brahma, along with Sanskrit inscriptions discovered
Not only Bhojshala, but many temples and Hindu religious sites across Bharat were demolished by invaders, and mosques were built in their place. Keeping this in mind, the central government should conduct surveys of all such sites and uncover the truth – Editor, HJS
Indore, Madhya Pradesh – On 24 February, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) submitted its scientific report to the Indore High Court regarding the Kamal Maula Masjid in the Bhojshala area of Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. Copies of the report have been provided to the petitioners, parties involved, and the government. The court has ordered that objections and opinions on the report may be filed within the next two weeks.
Key findings from the ASI report
The report states that the Kamal Maula Masjid was constructed using remnants, architectural elements, sculptures, and inscriptions from ancient temples. The present structure was built over several centuries without maintaining balance, symmetry, or a unified design.
According to the report, the ASI team discovered a total of 94 idols and sculptural remnants. These include figures of Lord Shri Ganesh, Brahma, Narasimha, Bhairav, as well as depictions of various animals. Several fragments bear Sanskrit inscriptions, believed to date from the 12th to 16th centuries. These findings indicate the prior existence of temple-style architecture and art at the site.
The ASI’s 2,100-page report to the Indore High Court reveals that the Kamal Maula Masjid at Bhojshala was built over a Hindu temple, says Advocate @Vishnu_Jain1
94 vigrahas including Shri Ganesh and Brahma and Sanskrit inscriptions were found during the survey.

Court proceedings and status quo order
A hearing in this matter took place at the Indore High Court on 23 February. The division bench comprising Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla and Justice Alok Awasthi noted that the 2,100-page scientific survey report, consisting of 10 volumes and prepared over 98 days, had already been opened from its sealed envelope, with copies given to all parties.
The court has directed that the status quo be maintained. No changes are to be made to the existing arrangements for puja and namaz until further orders. The next hearing is scheduled for 16 March 2026, when the court will consider any objections and suggestions submitted regarding the report.
What is this dispute about?
The Bhojshala dispute has remained a religiously and historically sensitive matter for many years. The Hindu community regards this site as the Shri Vagdevi Temple (dedicated to Goddess Saraswati) and worships it accordingly, while the Muslim side refers to it as the Kamal Maula Masjid. Once the matter reached the courts, the Archaeological Survey of India conducted a scientific survey at the site on the court’s orders and submitted its report.
