Lately I find myself caught between two differing desires. One part of me longs for days gone by, for lazy summer nights reading on the back deck, for quiet evenings and vast stretches of time with empty space to read, reflect, write a letter or simply putter in the garden. This part of me seems full of nostalgia for the way life used to be.
Another part of me is impatient, full of big dreams and exciting plans. This part of me is restless and ready to move, full of wondering about what’s next, which adventure should come first, which should come second. This part of me seems ready to race forward, leaving behind familiar settings for the chance to discover and encounter new vistas, perspectives, people and possibilities.
Mercury in Cancer and Nostalgia
On my walk this morning, I reflected on how the more nostalgic part of me seems apt give the extended tour of Mercury through Cancer: my mind turns to memory, and reminiscing. I crave the way things used to feel, the way memory makes the past seem more comforting or safe, even if it wasn’t really that way.
These longings for times gone by seem resonant with Jupiter at the tail end of Cancer too. There’s a slower feel to Jupiter now, as if there’s a desire to soak in as much of the past as possible, before Jupiter changes signs.
Air and Fire Signs: Hot and Energising
And while there is already a part of me ready for adventure, I know that part will only get louder and stronger as Jupiter powers into Leo on June 30.
With all three outer planets plus Saturn already in hot signs, (air and fire signs are hot, while earth and water signs are cold) the energy is bubbling up inside. That part of me that’s full of grand dreams and visions of bold adventure is readying to burst forth. Maybe you can feel it too?
I know much is being said about the many major outer planet aspects and alignments coming up in July (I’ve shared some thoughts inside the membership), but one aspect I don’t think has got the attention it deserves is one that will begin in August and continue until July 2027 and is all about enthusiasm, progress and breaking new ground.
That’s thanks to a series of trines from Jupiter in Leo to Saturn in Aries, the first of which will peak around August 31. There will be a second Jupiter trine Saturn aspect in April 2027 and a third and final fire trine between these two important time markers in July 2027.
Jupiter in Leo Trine Saturn in Aries: August 2026 – July 2027
There is so much momentum and energy held in this Jupiter Saturn aspect, which is the opening or waxing trine in the longer twenty-year Jupiter Saturn cycle, that began in December 2020.
If you’re familiar with the Moon phases, Jupiter is moving into the most expansive section of the first quarter phase, when there is a trine from the quicker moving planet to the slower one.
This part of the phase cycle is dynamic, active and ready to push forward. The longer Jupiter/Saturn cycle speaks to collective trends, and this next 12 months offers high creative energy, as well as enthusiasm, confidence and daring. Reaching new heights will be possible.
This type of steady daring unleashed in the coming 12 months thanks to Jupiter in Leo trine Saturn in Aries might inspire thoughtful risk taking or encourage you to take a leap towards a more inspired life.
So while the moods of the Moon might currently have the attention of my mind, inspiring me to immerse myself in nostalgia while I can, I know this is temporary, and that throughout July, as Jupiter gets settled into Leo, that more bold, forward looking inkling inside that’s wondering what’s next, is going to get louder and more pressing.
The Transition from Water to Fire
By the time we get to mid August, when Mercury moves into Leo, creative inspiration and uplifting ideas, encounters and visions will be plentiful.
One way you might find it helpful to think about the next six – eight weeks might be as a transition from water to fire, as the last major planet, Jupiter, shifts into the same hot group of signs as the other major planets.
While Mercury’s extended tour through Cancer might see you hold onto tradition and past rituals for a while yet, there’s discovery, innovation and new dreams to give form to just a month or two down the road.
Jupiter trine Saturn might inspire you to work up a plan, schedule or timeline that will support you making a bold vision come true. A collaboration involving Jupiter and Saturn can help you shape your dreams into a form or project that’s possible, weighing practical factors against desires for freedom, growth and discovery.
And yes, with one more planet heading into the hot group of signs, the pace will get even faster.
Perhaps this post might help you soak in your favourite mid year rituals while you can, knowing that the weeks and months ahead will help you – and many of your loved ones – launch boldly into the next, new chapter.
I’m curious, do you feel more in touch with the nostalgic, play it safe, stick with what you know vibes of Mercury in Cancer, or are you already starting to tune into the excitement and energy for adventure, discovery and expansion as promised by Jupiter trine Saturn?
