Tradescantia sillamontana is in the family Commelinaceae. Commonly known as cobweb spiderwort, or white velvet tradescantia, it is endemic to Northeastern Mexico. This leaves of this species are succulent, and thickly covered with white hairs, which help it to retain water in its native desert habitat. T. sillamontana is even considered to be the most xerophytic species in this genus. These adaptations make this species very easy to cultivate since it requires very little water and easily grows in full sun. The pink flowers are borne terminally above the foliage and bloom during the summer months.
