School Start Dates
The 2026 school year in Dubai starts on Monday, 31st August, 2026. However, some institutions may opt for a phased return, especially for early years and primary students, to help children transition smoothly into the new term. New students may also be given a couple of orientation sessions before full classes begin.
So, most of the holiday dates are certain, but it is important to confirm with your school on the same once again.
Half-Term Dates
For the half-term break, schools provide one of the below options approved by KHDA:
12–18 October 2026, or 19–23 October 2026
But, it is important to check with the school once, as some schools do distribute their mid-term break across the year in a spread out manner.
Winter Break
Winter holidays start from 14 December, 2026 and extend up to 3 January, 2027. This is a significant year end break for families and children to plan their holidays across the region and beyond.
School resumes on 4 January 2027, marking the start of Term 2.
The February Half-Term
Not all schools have a February break. But, as discussed earlier, some schools do spread their mid-term break between October and February. So, it is important to check with the corresponding published calendar of the school.
The Holy Ramadan Break
During the Ramadan period, schools across Dubai adjust their things to accommodate for students and staff who are fasting. The Ramadan period for 2027 is expected to be around 7 February 2027 to 9 March 2027, but the exact dates will depend on moon sightings, obviously.
Common changes during the holy Ramadan period are:
- Shorter school hours
- Reduced extracurricular activities
- Adjusted exam and assessment timetables
- Earlier dismissal times in some schools
Spring Break in April
The spring holiday starts from April 5-11, 2027, with students returning on April 12, 2027. Earlier break for Eid Al Fitr is expected around March 8-12, 2027.
End Year of School
The end of the academic year is expected to be on Friday, July 2, 2027, marking the start of the long summer holiday for most Dubai private schools.
