This eclipse season feels like the great revealer. When the layers get stripped back, it’s normal to feel tired, uninspired or lost.
Whether you’re conscious of it or not, so much of our energy and attention has become outsourced to what’s trending, what’s viral or what can be squeezed into a 3-minute reel.
The soul doesn’t work on that frequency. It needs time to absorb, to ponder, to create, to feel and to process. This is what this time in between eclipses, on the back of the “great awakening” of the Barbault Basket, is asking of us.
While social media is a useful tool, it’s not “social” anymore, unless you’re sending me a funny reel, which I always appreciate. These tools now run on Algol’s Rhythm (algorithm) and each one of us in our own way, are losing our heads. It could be loss of concentration, constant low-level anxiety, FOMO or dopamine addiction.
Our phones are usually within arms reach in the same way a smoker is not far from their pack of cigarettes. At least a smoker takes the time to breathe, to look at the world around them, slow down a bit and chat with other smokers. Maybe the world indeed, needs a Marlborough Red or a Winnie Blue. Who knows?
If you’re an astrologer or any other kind of online creator – I won’t use the reductive term “content,” chances are, you’ve not been creating from your soul, from how you want to be seen and from what you have to give and share.
You may think that to honour your soul, you have to give up the social media life all together. I’ve toyed with that. It’s tempting! Though I do enjoy my no Instagram Saturday’s.
However, the internet is where the humans are. We just have to shift the way we interact with them there. Not statistics, not follows, not views, not clicks. That’s just data, nothing more.
My bet is that you’re checking out what other astrologers are doing or other popular accounts you follow. From there, you’re taking the average of their material and repurposing it as your own. Colouring within the lines, playing it safe and giving yourself unconscious permission because hey, those guys with huge followings are doing it too, so it must be good, right?
Getting some insight or inspiration is one thing, but if it’s not yours, as in from your heart, then it’s energetically empty. Sure, the message may have come from you, but not through you. There’s a distinction if you sit with that long enough.
Many are afraid of showing up on social media because they don’t like being seen. Been there! I hear you! I still grapple with it from time to time. That’s just the ego getting in the way and the ego Edges God Out.
I very rarely look at the analytics and when I do, it’s just data. It means nothing about who I am, what I have to offer or what my future holds. If more people see my work and get the guidance, support and wisdom that an experienced astrologer can offer, I’m completely available for that! However, it’s not about me, it’s the message. It’s about how I can help them, support them and guide them through with the things I know.
When you’re showing up online you have no control over how you are seen. By strangers who don’t know you. Who judge you based on their own projections. Who take things (intentionally or not) out of context. Who manipulate the current “in thing” and deem you good or bad based on what the trending issue is.
Madonna, a Leo, once said something along the lines of “I got to a point in my career where I figure people are going to say shit about me no matter what I do, so I do what I want.” Sage wisdom.
The fear around visibility is real. It’s the biggest issue emerging astrologers face when they transition from student to practitioner showing up online, sharing what they know, gaining a client base, selling products and services and getting paid. This is a stumbling block for almost everyone I’ve taught or mentored. Again, I’ve grappled with it.
It is also real that the internet is full of well-intentioned and good-hearted humans who value authenticity, speaking from the heart and showing up in a way that other people don’t. There are plenty of people who want to hear what you have to say in the way that only you can say it.
You get to choose which reality is true for you.
The Solar Eclipse in Leo revealed issues around being seen and what is the truth of your heart. The next eclipse – a Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, brings closure to the past two years, and even longer if you consider Saturn and Neptune.
This is the moment where we take the wisdom of all the Piscean vagueness, weirdness, compassion fatigue, the trends, the virality and the sweeping movements you may have got caught up in and transmute it. You may realise that these concepts and ideas just don’t work for you anymore in the way they once did.
This doesn’t have to be a baby and bathwater moment. In fact, the opposite is true. What may be true now is figuring out how you can still be compassionate, follow the occasional trend or support movements you care about without losing your center, your soul or your voice to the echo chamber.
Showing up or selling from your soul isn’t the same as selling your soul. There’s a distinct difference. A product or service is akin to creating a vessel. Putting that vessel online and telling the people about it is where that vessel becomes filled by the infinite light, by abundance, by blessings and by money.
Anything else is just old thought patterns on repeat that became belief and got in the way. When we can rearrange those old beliefs and rewire those thought patterns and create new beliefs that is when you can really tap into creating the future you want.
Building an astrology business is so much more than hanging out your astrology shingle and waiting for the avalanche of clients to book in with you. They won’t. Building a business the greatest and continual self-development journey you’ll ever embark upon. It will punch holes in your psyche, your confidence and your self-esteem at every turn. It is a journey for your soul, to be sure.
If you’d like to build something real, something of meaning and purpose that you can truly get behind, I’d love to help you!
