On August 22, 2026, students, families, and community members gathered at the Hindu Society of North Carolina in Morrisville for the Fourth Annual Hindu University of America (HUA) Bhagavad Gītā Parīkṣā. Now in its fourth year, the competition continues to inspire participants to study, understand, and apply the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gītā.
This year’s Parīkṣā included four groups, expanding participation from young children to adults. Participants in the Bala, Kishore, Yuva, and Mumukshu groups demonstrated not only their familiarity with the Bhagavad Gītā, but also their ability to reflect upon its meaning and relevance to everyday life.
More Than a Competition
The Bhagavad Gītā Parīkṣā is designed to take participants beyond memorization. It encourages them to engage with the Gītā through chanting, written examinations, thoughtful interpretation, and discussions about how its teachings can guide their choices and conduct.
The format reflects one of the central purposes of the Parīkṣā: to help participants encounter the Bhagavad Gītā not simply as a text to be studied, but as a lifelong companion and source of clarity, strength, and ethical guidance.
By welcoming an adult Mumukshu group this year, the North Carolina Parīkṣā also affirmed that the study of the Bhagavad Gītā is a lifelong journey. Parents, community members, and other adult learners had the opportunity to participate alongside the younger generation, creating a shared culture of learning throughout the community.

Four Years of Growth and Community Commitment
The 2026 Bhagvad Gītā Pariksha had more than 100 registrations and was attended by over 300 community members making it an exuberant celebration of Gītā. Over four years, the Parīkṣā has grown into an important North Carolina tradition and HUA Initiative. The addition of the Mumukshu adult group in 2026 represents another meaningful step in its development, bringing multiple generations together through a shared engagement with the Bhagavad Gītā.
Its continued success demonstrates what becomes possible when temples, educators, parents, volunteers, and community leaders unite around a common commitment to preserving and transmitting Hindu knowledge.
The event has also contributed to a growing national vision. The Bhagavad Gītā Parīkṣā is expanding beyond North Carolina, offering a model that Hindu communities throughout the United States can adopt in partnership with Hindu University of America.
Special appreciation goes to the organizers, judges, test writers, sponsors, and volunteers whose dedication created a welcoming and intellectually stimulating experience for every participant. Their work reflects the spirit of sevā and the community’s commitment to ensuring that the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gītā remains accessible and relevant for future generations.
The parents and families who encouraged participants throughout their preparation also deserve recognition. Their support helps open the doors of Hindu culture, philosophy, and spiritual wisdom for the next generation.
Carrying the Gītā Forward
The Bhagavad Gītā speaks to enduring human questions: How should we respond to difficult circumstances? What is our responsibility toward others? How can we act with courage while remaining grounded in wisdom? What does it mean to live according to Dharma?
By placing these questions before children, young adults, and adult learners, the Bhagavad Gītā Parīkṣā creates an opportunity for knowledge to become reflection, and for reflection to become practice.
Hindu University of America remains committed to making the knowledge systems rooted in Hindu thought accessible through rigorous academic study, community education, and initiatives such as the Bhagavad Gītā Parīkṣā. HUA also offers Growing Up with the Gītā, a course created to help younger learners explore the Gītā’s teachings in an accessible and meaningful way.
The Fourth Annual Bhagavad Gītā Parīkṣā celebrated every participant who accepted the challenge to study deeply, think carefully, and engage sincerely with one of Hindu Dharma’s foundational texts. As the program enters its next chapter, it carries forward a powerful aspiration: that people of every generation will grow with the Bhagavad Gītā as a trusted companion throughout their lives.
